For more than 200 years, this swath of green, coined “America’s Front Yard,” has symbolized the nation’s capital and all of the freedoms this country embraces. The National Mall stretches from the foot of the US Capitol to the Potomac River, offering 1,000 acres of public space coveted by locals and visitors alike. Explore the Mall by foot, bike, or Segway, pack a picnic or fly a kite, check out festivals and events that often take over the open space, or walk the exhibit halls inside Smithsonian Museum favorites from the American History Museum and Air and Space Museum to newer additions like the American Indian Museum. On the Mall, adults and kids alike delight in highly-educational, sensory-filled experiences.

Our hotel is a 15-minute walk from the famous Pennsylvania Avenue address, and the adjacent Lafayette Square is a great place to people-watch or enjoy a picnic lunch picked up along the way. Beyond a White House visit, our proximity to the McPherson Square Metro station also puts all of the Smithsonian museums and most of the city’s iconic buildings and monuments within reach. Sure, you can easily hop in a taxi or Uber, too, but walkers will be pleasantly surprised to find their temporary home in a highly pedestrian-friendly zone, surrounded by the best DC activities.
